How Opel keys work
At Opel, the key type mainly depends on when the model was designed. Pre-Stellantis generations of the Corsa, Astra, Meriva, Zafira and Insignia have Opel flip keys, whose hinge and buttons are well-known wear points. Recent Corsa, Mokka, Crossland and Grandland models use the keys of their Peugeot and Citroën cousins, with hands-free entry and start depending on trim. The vans follow their manufacturing partners: depending on the generation, the Vivaro is derived from the Renault Trafic or the Peugeot Expert, and the Combo from the Fiat Doblo or the Peugeot Partner. Two Opels with the same name can therefore need very different keys and programming methods. For an accurate quote, the year and the chassis number (VIN) are essential, and a photo of your current key helps confirm the generation.

Your questions
Why does the quote depend so much on the year of my Vivaro?
Because the Vivaro was built on different bases across generations, shared first with Renault, then with Peugeot and Citroën. The key, its programming and the tools required change accordingly. With the year and the chassis number, we identify the right base and give you a free quote.
Does my recent Corsa have the same key as a Peugeot 208?
Corsas built since Opel joined the Stellantis group share much of their electronics with the Peugeot 208, and their keys are very similar. Older Corsas use different Opel electronics. The year shown on the registration certificate tells you which family your car belongs to.
