How Land Rover keys work
The Freelander 2, Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque use a remote fob with no visible blade and a start button, plus an emergency blade that slides out of the casing to open the door. Depending on the equipment, the key stays in your pocket thanks to keyless entry. The recent Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover, as well as the new-generation Defender, take this further with newer and better-protected electronics. If the battery is flat, the car has a backup position, shown in the handbook, where the key is placed to start. As keyless entry is targeted by relay theft, keeping the key in a signal-blocking pouch is a good habit. For recent models, the feasibility of a spare or replacement key must be checked with the chassis number (VIN) before any quote.

My Range Rover Evoque key is no longer detected, how do I start the car?
Open the door with the emergency blade hidden in the fob, then place the key in the backup position shown in the handbook before pressing the start button. Then replace the battery. If the key is still not detected with a fresh battery, try the second key and send us the chassis number so we can check the options.
How can I protect my keyless Land Rover against relay theft?
Keep the key in a signal-blocking pouch or box, away from the front door, and never leave the spare key in the vehicle. If a key has been lost or stolen, tell us: depending on the model, the registered keys can be reviewed when a new key is programmed.
