How Ford keys work
Ford’s immobiliser, called PATS, only allows the engine to start if the key’s chip is one of the registered keys. Older Fiesta and Focus models, like the Transit and Ranger, often have a fixed-blade key, with a built-in remote depending on the version. Mid-generation Focus, Mondeo, C-Max and Kuga models use a three-button flip key. The KeyFree system on recent Puma, Kuga and Focus models, paired with the start button, lets the key stay in your pocket; an emergency blade is stored inside and, if the battery is flat, the key goes in the backup position shown in the handbook to start the car. On several Fords, key programming includes a security waiting time imposed by the vehicle, which is built into the job. For a company Transit or Ranger, keep a spare key at the office rather than in the vehicle.

Your questions
Can a Ford Transit key be made without the original?
Yes in most cases: the Transit is opened without damage, the blade is cut from the key code and the new key is programmed to the immobiliser via diagnostics. Feasibility and duration depend on the year; the chassis number (VIN) lets us be precise when we give the free quote.
My Ford Kuga KeyFree no longer detects the key, what should I do?
Start by replacing the key battery. If the car still refuses to start, put the key in the backup position shown in the handbook and press the start button. If the second key works normally, the first one is at fault and can be replaced.
How much does a spare Ford key cost?
