How Dacia keys work
The first Logan and Sandero have a bladed transponder key, sometimes with a separate locking remote depending on the trim. Later Sandero, Logan, Duster, Lodgy and Dokker models combine a fixed blade and buttons in one head, sturdy but prone to wear: buttons that sink in, a shell that cracks around the key-ring eyelet. The most recent Sandero, Logan and Jogger, along with the electric Spring, use newer Renault Group electronics, and their programming is checked with the chassis number (VIN). In every case, the engine only starts if the key’s chip is recognised by the control unit: a simple copy of the blade opens the door but does not start the engine. Many Dacias are bought second-hand with a single key, so making a spare early stops a lost key from becoming an all-keys-lost situation.

Your questions
I had my Dacia key copied at a key-cutting kiosk, why won’t the car start?
The copy reproduces the blade but not the immobiliser chip. The control unit does not recognise that key and blocks starting, even if it opens the doors and turns in the ignition. You need a transponder key programmed to your Dacia via diagnostics for the engine to start.
Does my Dacia Spring have a different key from other Dacias?
The Spring is a small electric car with its own remote, different from the keys of older Sandero and Logan models. As with any recent car, the feasibility of a spare or replacement key is checked with the chassis number (VIN). Send it to us with the first registration year for a free quote.
